This island in the Seto Inland Sea is famous for being one of Japan's three most scenic spots “Aki no Miyajima”. It’s also home to Mt. Misen (a sacred mountain explored by Kobo Daishi Kukai) along with a huge number of historical temples and shrines. The island itself has been considered a holy spot being worshipped as an “Island of the Gods” since ancient times.

This shrine is located on Miyajima, which has been commonly known as the “Sacred Island of the Gods” since ancient times. It’s said that the shrine was built in 593. There are many sights to see and wonders to discover, such as the Shinden-style shrine architecture and its large Vermilion Torii gate that towers over the sea. It has been registered as a World Heritage Site and National Treasure in Japan for its high historical value.

It is a 300-meter-long shopping street located between Miyajima Pier and Itsukushima Shrine accommodating 60 featured stores, restaurants, and souvenir shops selling local Miyajima foods such as red leave buns, grilled oysters, and conger eel rice, making it a nice destination for a walk-and-eat tour.

Miyajima means spotted deer is no overstatement. The deer are wild and out in the open on the island, they are considered important in the history of Japan. To protect the health of the free-roaming animals, you can’t feed them but meeting them is undoubtedly enjoyable.

The ropeway opens tourists’ eyes to Mt. Misen, a spiritual spot on Miyajima registered as a World Heritage Site with virgin forests, many incredible natural rocks, observation decks, and Momijidani Station at the foot of the mountain. There is a free shuttle bus running from Momijidani Park, making the spot easily accessible.

Immerse in Miyajima's nature through SUP or kayaking. There are also classes held by professional instructors and guided tours for participants on different levels. If you were lucky enough, you might get close to the Otorii gate by SUP (weather permitting)

Atomic Bomb Dome is a World Heritage Site. It is a monument of peace to be preserved permanently to convey how destructive atomic bombs can be. It remains standing almost exactly as it was in the bomb exposure in WWII. It will continue to advocate for the abolition of nuclear weapons and the importance of “long and lasting world peace” throughout the ages.

A platform of respect and hope for peace. To tourists all around the world, it conveys the reality of the damage caused by the atomic bomb. The collection and exhibits belong to atomic bomb survivors; pictures and various objects clearly depict the devastation caused by the bomb. It also tells the history of Hiroshima before and after the incident as well as the nuclear age.

Built in 1589 by Terumoto Mori by a warlord from the Sengoku period. After the complete destruction by the atomic bomb, the castle was restored in 1958. Besides a museum depicting the history of Hiroshima in texts and visions, there is also a corner to try on armor and helmets.

Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki is the signature dish of Hiroshima cuisine characterized by noodles and layers on top of the pancake rather than being mixed in advance. All restaurants have their own noodles, ingredients, and seasonings. Try them out!
